Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 2, 2026
Scout is built on a simple promise: your financial data belongs to you. This policy explains what we collect, how we protect it, and what we will never do with it. We've written it in plain English because legalese doesn't build trust — honesty does.
What Scout Collects
When you create an account and use Scout, we collect:
- Account information — your name and email address, provided during signup.
- Debt information — the debts you enter manually: creditor names, balances, interest rates, minimum payments, and any optional fields (such as collection agency details).
- Payment activity — payments you log and windfalls you record inside the app.
- Preferences — your chosen coaching style, payoff strategy, and monthly commitment setting.
- Financial account data (optional) — Scout may offer the ability to connect financial accounts to automatically import balances and transactions. This connection is always optional, requires your explicit permission, and can be revoked at any time from your account settings.
We don't collect Social Security numbers, tax documents, or financial data beyond what you provide or explicitly authorize.
What Scout Does NOT Do
- Scout does not sell your personally identifiable information to third parties.
- Scout does not share your individual debt data, balances, or account details with advertisers, data brokers, or other companies.
- Scout does not pull your credit score or report.
- Scout does not connect to any financial account without your explicit permission. Any account linking is always opt-in and can be disconnected at any time.
How Your Data Is Stored
Your data is stored in Supabase, a hosted database platform. All data is encrypted at rest and in transit. We use Supabase Row-Level Security (RLS) to enforce that each user can only access their own data — even at the database layer, your records are isolated from other users' records.
Supabase infrastructure runs on AWS and complies with SOC 2 Type II standards. You can learn more at supabase.com/security.
Anonymized and Aggregated Data
Scout may share anonymized, aggregated data that cannot identify individual users for research, analytics, and business purposes. This data contains no personally identifiable information and cannot be traced back to any individual user.
For example, we might report that “Scout users have an average of 3.2 debts” — never “Casey has $24,000 in debt.”
Cookies and Sessions
Scout uses a single cookie to maintain your login session. This is a Supabase authentication session cookie — it keeps you logged in so you don't have to re-enter your credentials every visit. We don't use advertising cookies, analytics cookies, or third-party tracking cookies.
Data Deletion
You own your data and can delete it at any time. From Settings → Account, you can permanently delete your account. This removes all of your data from our systems — debts, payment history, preferences, and account information — and cannot be undone.
If you need help deleting your account, email us and we'll take care of it within 30 days.
Not Financial Advice
Scout is not a financial advisor. All recommendations are informational and educational. Scout's payoff calculations are estimates based on the data you provide. Always verify figures against your actual account statements. Consult a licensed financial professional before making significant financial decisions.
Changes to This Policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we'll notify you by email and update the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of Scout after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
